“Speed-Connecting” Event

Calling all students, early-career professionals and career professionals! From 11:30am-12:30pm on Thursday, December 14th, the Alaska Bird Conference will be holding a “Speed-Connecting” event. This fun and interactive event will provide students and early-career professionals a way to meet other bird enthusiasts and like-minded career professionals in an understanding, respectful, and fair environment. During this event, students and early-career professionals will have a chance to introduce themselves, their work, and interest, while building connections with professionals. However, conversations will be brief (5-minutes) to allow for a maximum number of professional connections.

Interested in attending the event? Please email Laura McDuffie (lmcduffie@usgs.gov) and provide your name and position (student, early-career professional, or career professional). To make this event a success, we are looking for 12 students/early career professionals and 12 career professionals to participate.

Nervous about what to say or ask? Here are some pointers:

Where do you attend school or where do you work?

What is your favorite bird species or group of birds?

What do you want to be when you “grow up”?

Provide a brief explanation of your current research or project(s).

Are you a professional looking for summer field assistance? Let others know!

Are you a recent graduate looking for a job? Mention this! It’s a safe space!
